Number 1 is great. I also try to remember to include who a gift will be used. It helps reassure that the gift is appreciated and will be used. Increasing impact when saying thank you is a tremendously important concept.

Last fall I was part of a tremendously wonderful thank you. I returned to a 50 year reunion of childhood friends in my hometown of St. Louis, MO to pay tribute to the couple that started our church youth group when we were teens. Although we’ve stayed in touch with them through the years, we wanted to show them in a big way how much they meant to us.

So, for a weekend we hosted parties at night, brunches in the mornings, went to church together, started a scholarship fund in their names and ended with a musical tribute. They are now in their 70′s but physically and mentally able to enjoy all the love we showered on them. To top it off, we hired a photographer and videographer to record the whole thing.

It’s not always possible to show your appreciation in such a big way, but we are happy that we were able to do so. They, nor we, will ever forget this magical weekend.

Thank you very much for the valuable information in this post. It’s a good reminder that shooting someone a quick “yeah thanks” doesn’t quite cut it.

It’s always nice to let others know out loud how much you appreciate their efforts. However, sometimes, I prefer to remain silent about it. I show my gratitude in other ways and on the side. I’m not sure if not letting the other person know about the little act of gratitude I’ve done, is right or wrong. I guess I don’t want the other party to feel obligated.

Jeff-good post. People don’t say thanks enough. When they do it is done so poorly that it doesn’t convey the right meaning.

One thing I would add is to make eye contact. Your eyes are the windows to your soul.
