Have you ever dreamed of being your own boss? What has held you back? For many, they worry about being able to earn a living doing what they love. However, with the right approach, it is possible to become an entrepreneur, live your passion, and make a living!

Striking out on your own as an entrepreneur and doing what others say can’t be done is what Jonathan Fields, in his new book, calls becoming a Career Renegade. What I like about this book is that Fields doesn’t just talk theories, he offers real-world, practical advice to help us convert our dreams to a reality!

How to make a serious living doing what you love!

“What if that mad passion that everyone says can’t make money, done differently, could allow you to make a great living?” ~ Jonathan Fields

Career Renegade will help you seek out ways to generate a nice income doing what you love. It will guide you into thinking differently and discovering the perfect niche that will make your dream a reality!

I was skeptical when I first started reading this book, but Jonathan offers so much practical advice that it is almost impossible to avoid learning something. I am convinced that anyone with an ounce of entrepreneurial spirit will enjoy and find something valuable in Career Renegade.

It offers up numerous real-world examples revealing how regular people have become successful renegades. These insights will give you confidence and spark your own creative ideas.

Here’s a sneak peek at the ways Jonathan suggests you can make a living doing what you love:

    • Identify an information gap and fill it – Every pursuit has a pool of essential knowledge. The deeper one dives into a particular area, the more information they need. Often, there is an unfilled gap which translates into a business opportunity.

    • Teach others to do what you love doing – It might not be possible to make money directly from doing what you love, but others will quite likely pay you handsomely to teach them what you know. I’ve seen this time and again in my life and with the technology available today, you can literally reach millions online.

    • Exploit the need for stuff – Often the things we love to do require stuff. You can make money selling or renting the gear. Fields gives an example of one yoga instructor that created a unique yoga mat which led to the creation of her own company. Today, Yogitoes has 13 people on staff!

    • Fill the need for community – Most of the time we enjoy the camaraderie and sense of belonging that surrounds an activity almost as much as the thing itself. You can exploit this need to interact with like-minded people. Many have done this with online forums or user groups.

  • Alleviate barriers to participation – Some pursuits have requirements that make them difficult for the average individual to engage in and enjoy. This is a gap that is just waiting to be filled!

These are all fantastic ways to transform an activity that you are passionate about into a money-making venture! Again, the neat thing is that Career Renegade doesn’t just name these strategies, but offers up a ton of resources and ideas to make it a reality!

Of course, you’ll have to buy the book if you want to take advantage of all the gems Jonathan has for discovering and pursuing your renegade path!

You really can make a living doing what you love!

As a renegade entrepreneur, it is possible to live your passion without giving up your lifestyle. It just requires a little creativity and thinking outside the box. The cool thing is that others like Jonathan Fields have already blazed the trail and can lead the way for the rest of us! This book is a great place to start.

  1. I know the dream to become an entrepreneur is stronger than ever, especially in this type of economic environment. Having more control of the daily work flow process and time management are all positive aspects.

The toughest part is you don’t get paid until you make a sale or provide a service. I do like that you mentioned teaching as an opportunity to provide a service. Lot’s of opportunity, just a matter of finding the right fit.

It makes sense to seize opportunities by filling information gaps but often it is not very easy to identify one. I think what works is winning potential customers over by the level of passion you show in what you do.

  9. Hey guys!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts! One of the biggest challenges for me, when writing Career Renegade, was to keep it real and actionable. My mantra was, “keep it insanely useful and immediately actionable.”

No doubt, it’s a lot of work, but it’s work worth doing. Plus, it’s so easy to test ideas quickly and inexpensively, then build your renegade adventure on the side, until it’s ready to step into.
