Nice post. I love to see so many bloggers talking about ways to be charitable. Hard economic times often makes it difficult to give money, I try to find a couple hours each week to volunteer.

I think it is also important to keep in mind that while the escalation in prices is making it harder for us to give to charity that those in need in this country will be struggling ever more than they were before due to the same price issues.

I think donating items if you don’t have extra money is a great idea and if you can’t do that you can always give your time.

@Ron – A yard sale is a great way to convert unwanted items into cash that can be donated.

@mbhunter – I wonder how the tightening in the economy is going to impact churches? Do you think the giving will go down?

This is an issue we have in our church, sorta: When there’s a special need, the regular giving goes down.

Great list of alternative ideas, Jeff. I heard of a group of families that had a huge yard sale and donated the proceeds. They got some local media coverage and had a *very* successful yard sale! When a local businessman found out about it, he matched their donation.
