We’re not wild spenders by any means, so we don’t actually budget. We roughly plan things out and if we have some bigger expenses coming up we cut back even more for a bit.

Because we live frugally normally, we don’t need to create any type of budget because being conscious about spending money has become second nature. And I know this won’t change when our income increases again.

We do a lot of the same things with our budget. One thing I think is key in a marriage is a lot of communication about the monthly spending plan. The fewer surprises the better!

the best part about macs is being about to walk into any apple store and ask them “hey, how do i do this?” and they give you an answer. they train their staff well. yuo are paying for a well thought out, engineering piece of intellectual artwork.

I definitely think it’s worth taking the time to learn the Mac system. They even have these weekly classes ($100 for the year, i think) where you can chip away at all the nuances of the tips and tricks of a mac, the same way you learned your pc (though you probably didnt realize it at the time). The benefits significantly outweigh the costs of the turnoffs you mentioned. You learning the mac and embracing your fears is exactly what this blog and life should be all about.

@Glen - I have only recently started adjusting my budget monthly. I have found that for me it works wonders. I really like the feeling of flexibility this gives me.

@Maria - I agree 100 percent. Having some personal spending money and at least a baby emergency fund are two critical necessities in my mind for keeping a budget alive.

It’s sooo important to leave some personal spending money in the budget - even when you’re working to pay off debt. If you don’t, you WILL blow your budget eventually!

Also, some of the one time expenses can be planned for. Try setting aside some money every month for “unexpected” emergencies such as car and home repairs. That really helps when they surprise you.

Rigid budgets are great…if you can keep within the budget. Yeah, you are so right with this one, things come up all the time that we might not be able to control and have to spend more money because of.

However, I certainly don’t think that every month will need to be flexible.
