Everybody loves a great deal no matter what time of year it is. With Christmas slowly passing by there will be some awesome after Christmas deals to be had on refurbished laptops and desktops. Finding the right refurbished laptop or desktop for yourself is not a hard thing. Most sites offer customer reviews of each product they sell and market which allows previous buyers to give present buyers an idea of what they are buying. Yes, the constant virus problem gets very annoying after a while.

I will stick with my Dell laptop until it stops working but I too will probably go with a Mac in the near-future.

Shelley – I ended up selling my used Macbook. There was nothing wrong with it. I’ve just been a Windows user for a long time and found it hard to make the switch. I’d possibly buy one again when I have more time to dedicate to learning the little things like keyboard shortcuts that I already know so well for Windows.

As far as life expectancy, that’s kind of hard to say. I think that as long as the unit has been treated pretty well up to now (which is hard for you to know), that it should last a long time. You might have to replace the battery or hard drive, but other than that it should be good for at least 5 to 7 years.

Hi there, We are considering buying a used macbook, around 3 years old, I think. It sounds very much like the used one you bought last year. Plus, like you, this would be our first mac.

Two questions: It’s been nearly a year since you posted this, so how is your macbook doing now? Are you still happy with it?

Also, do you have any idea as to the life expectancy of a macbook? If we buy one three years old with no warranty, I’m wondering about this. Is it common for a macbook to be used for 5-10 years?

Congratulations on your switch! I am glad it’s going well for you! I am about to buy a new MBP, and was looking at pros and cons when I came across your site. It’s really nice NOT to see a horror story about buying used.

P.s. I use OpenOffice for PC, and it works great. I was wondering if maybe you could share your experience with it on the Mac if you have tried it yet. I really don’t wanna have to pay for MS office right away, even with my student discount.
