Recently, there has been a good deal of litigation by the
US Federal trade comission against blogs and website owners
for not publishing their advertising revenue, or potential
connections with advertising networks.

What are your thoughts about how this could effect
the blogging community?

@financialwizardess - I totally agree that posing to have a lot of money is totally different than actually having it.

My point is that having money gives you the freedom and power to make the choices you want to make.

On the other hand, if you don't have money then you are often stuck without any choices.

It is no secret that money buys access to a better standard of living all the way around. For instance, being able to afford a home in a slightly better part of town can lead to a better public education for your children, access to better healthcare and better employment.

Networking with the right people, not the ones trying to appear rich, has a lot to do with the opportunities that come your way.

I disagree with #5 about social mobility. It is true that if you aspire to hang out with big spenders, that you also must be a big spender. Your comment assumes that once people have money, they move to a nicer neighborhood and live a showy lifestyle. My experience is that the people in those nice neighborhoods living "the life" are leveraged to the max and are not really wealthy. Living large is less about how much you have than how much you want to pretend you have.

However, if you do have a lot of money, you don't have to be showy. We chose to live a frugal lifestyle - having friends over for dinner and conversation instead of eating out, or letting the kids play in the backyard for their birthday instead of renting a fancy party place. Most of our friends would probably be floored if they knew how much $ we have saved up. If you play the "keep up with the Jones's" game, you will lose.

A well written article which touches on some key cultural points. Money is a vital factor in everyone's life and the lack of or limited access to it DOES cause problems. Just look at causes behind the current recession and financial crisis. The key thing about Money is to remember not to spend more than you have or can afford to easily pay back.

There is a lot of talk about the importance of money in personal development, but the evidence suggests otherwise.

Happiness research has consistently shown that above the median income, there is no correlation between increased income and increased happiness.

We are no happier than before the modern era, with general life satisfaction surveys showing that none of the modern conveniences, technologies, and general increases in wealth have led to increased happiness.

While I agree that it is a good thing for individuals to accept responsibility for their individual personal finances, I think much more emphasis should be put on creating collective financial well-being: universal health care, ending poverty and hunger worldwide, strengthening our economy, etc.

The rules of the money game ensure than only a few can win. Why not change the rules of the game so that nearly everyone can win?

This article assumes the rules of the game must stay the same. But we created them, and together we can change them to provide for our collective well-being.

Read Duff´s latest article - duffmcduffee: The quest to become incredibly healthy can interfere with just being healthy.
