The ironic part is that when I actually put in a ton of effort, I tend to get much better results and have a far deeper appreciation for the project. In my mind, it speaks to how they were raised and the fact that they never developed a work ethic. When it comes to the "time" excuse I always tell people, There's never enough time to do everything, but there's always enough time to do the important things. Modeling excellence is certainly the best thing we can do. I also remind my kids that doing something like homework right the first time will get it done faster because it eliminates the rework.
