Winning Teams: How To Stop Being A Loser
Is your team winning or losing?
In life, your team could be your family, your work unit or maybe even just you. Is your life turning out like you dreamed it would when you were little?
Are you gaining or losing ground? How’s your marriage? What about your kids? Are you able to hold it all together or are things starting to spin out of control?
Maybe you are winning a few, but you still feel like there is more to life. Well, hang on because I think I can show you how to stop being a loser and how to start winning big!
Winning teams don’t just get lucky
First, you have to realize that winning teams don’t just happen randomly. There is a lot that goes into building a winning team. However, it all starts with you.
If you want to stop being a loser, then you have to be big enough to admit your mistakes. You’ve got to take personal responsibility for your team and its success.
Sure, the other team members have their role in your losses, but blaming others isn’t going to get you anywhere.
Winners have the ability to eliminate as many personal behaviors as possible that lead to losing and to maximize the individual behaviors that lead to winning.
In a nutshell, if you want to start winning, stop doing what losers do!
A few suggestions to help you get started winning
Okay, I’ve told you to stop doing what losers do, but what does that mean? Well, let me help you get started by offering some suggestions.
It doesn’t matter what kind of team you have. These recommendations apply across the board. Here you go:
1. Stop all the negativity and focus on the positive
Stop things like whining, complaining, blaming, rationalizing and gossiping. These are a waste of time! They are just a few of the things that losers do that you want to stop doing.
How do you stop these things? Well, you consciously choose to adopt the right attitudes that will make you a winner. You focus your mind on the positive.
Trust me on this! If you do, you’ll be amazed at how quickly it will make a difference. Winning teams do this regularly. Do it yourself and it will be infectious.
2. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, just follow the other winners
In whatever area you want to start winning, look for successful people in that arena of life and do what they do. It could be in marriage, personal finances, or business.
Whatever it is, copy the habits of winning teams in that area of life and you’ll start winning too! Model their behavior and you’ll get their results!
The trap here is that most people assume they already know what winners do. They think they already have all the answers, yet they keep on losing.
Don’t assume you know the answers! Our culture has a way of perpetuating misinformation. Winners have learned how to cut the crap and discover the real truth.
Be certain that you are following an obvious winner. If it isn’t 100%, without a doubt obvious, then move on to someone else.
3. Broaden your view of the team
You need to see your team in different terms than what you do today. Broaden the definition of who is on your team.
Surround yourself with trusted advisors. The funny thing is that you don’t even have to know these people for them to become your advisor.
For example, Dave Ramsey is one of my key financial advisors. However, I’ve never even spoken to the man! However, I’ve read his books, listened to his radio show and followed his advice. My local financial planner and broker is a Dave Ramsey Endorsed Local Provider (ELP). I have made Dave Ramsey a key member of my team without him even knowing it!
You can do the same thing. Add people to your team that can help you accomplish your goals. Again, find those that have accomplished what you want to do and ask them how they did it.
This works for your career, marriage, family etc. Be sure to do your research and only consult with people that have truly won.
4. Chart a course for where you are going
Write down some goals. Write them down. If they aren’t on paper, then they don’t exist. There is something about writing it down that helps you commit.
Having some goals gives you something specific to work toward. It also helps you to stay on course. Otherwise, you are likely to meander aimlessly toward nothing. Loser!
Keep a record of your goals over a long period of time. The rate at which you accomplish your goals will encourage and inspire you to do more. It will reassure you that you truly are a winner!
5. The train doesn’t leave the station until everybody is onboard
Before you set out pursuing your goals, be sure your whole team is in agreement that these are the goals to pursue. A team divided cannot win.
When we set out to become debt-free, I was hesitant at first to get on a budget. My wife was the one that saw it as a goal we should attain. She patiently talked to me and helped me learn more. Once we were both ready, then we worked as a team to win financially.
The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Every member of your team is crucial to your success. Be sure they share and are invested in your vision for the future.
Do these five things and you’ll stop being a loser!
Winning teams take effort to build, but winning is a whole lot better than losing. These five strategies will help you to win more often in every area of your life. They don’t guarantee success, but they certainly give you a leg up on the competition!
Are you building winning teams?

Focusing on the positives are key. It’s about planning and figuring out what is going wrong. It sometimes is harder to find the negative, so once that is pointed out you know what changes need to be made.

I think number 2 is the most important thing. To know how to win, you must follow other winners. It’s a truth echoed everywhere from the business world to the Book of Proverbs. Great advice! Thank you!

ALL OF UR SUCCESS DEPENDS ON UR FATE, U CAN’T FIGHT AGAINST UR DESTINY
@luc – Sorry dude, I have to respectfully disagree with you. I do not believe that our lives are pre-destined. I believe we all have the freewill to make choices that determine the outcomes in our lives. Otherwise, why would we even get out of bed in the morning if everything was going to go a certain way regardless of our actions? I simply won’t buy that view of life! It does not hold true to what I’ve experienced.
